Tap-and-go tickets launch on Hobart City Express

Travelling just got even easier for passengers catching our Hobart Express service with the introduction of tap and go contactless payments on board for one-way Adult tickets.

Passengers can now travel between Hobart Airport and the CBD simply by tapping their bank card or mobile device when boarding, complementing other easy and convenient ways to purchase SkyBus tickets.

The new contactless payment system is the latest innovation to the SkyBus ticket purchase journey, which also includes a dedicate website, SkyBus app and e-kiosks at departure zones. It eliminates any requirement for passengers to pre-purchase tickets.

Michael Sewards, co-CEO SkyBus owner Kinetic, said the new technology was another example of how SkyBus continued to innovate to deliver a seamless customer experience.

“For us, this is about continually improving the ease and convenience of our services for passengers,” said Mr Sewards.

“People know SkyBus as a fast, frequent and affordable service, and we look at every opportunity to remove any friction in their journey, including how they purchase their ticket.

“This contactless system gives customers yet another easy payment option, so they can get to where they’re going even faster.”

Validator devices have been installed across the SkyBus Hobart fleet with the ability to simply tap mobile devices or a credit card to travel. The system has initially been introduced to the Hobart City Express route, ahead of wider rollout to our SkyBus flagship service in Melbourne.

The system is powered by Masabi's Justride platform which is used by more than 140 transport operators and authorities across Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.

Brian Zanghi, CEO at Masabi, said he was proud to bring the world class technology to SkyBus services.

“We’re proud to be continuing our excellent work with SkyBus, using our best in class modular solution, open platform, and open partnership approach to bring a world class transport ticketing and payments experience to people travelling to and from airports across Australia” Mr Zanghi said.
