12 August 2016

Service will be the most cost effective and frequent express transport option between St Kilda and the airport
Melbourne, Australia – On Sunday 14 August, SkyBus launches its new St Kilda Express service between the Port Phillip suburb and Melbourne Airport, and is celebrating with FREE TRAVEL to all passengers for the first week of service (Sunday 14th August to Saturday 20th August).
The new SkyBus service will collect passengers from convenient St Kilda destinations every 30 minutes during the week, from 6.30am until 7.00pm.
On weekends the service will run hourly and finish later, starting at 6.30am and finishing at 7.30pm.
Customers travelling on this route can also enjoy some of the much-loved SkyBus perks including free Wi-Fi, online ticket purchasing, smartphone ticketing access and its ‘Kids Travel Free’ policy.
Michael Sewards, Director of SkyBus, said, “We’re excited to bring our service to St Kilda and offer locals and travellers an outstanding service not previously available to those travelling to and from the Port Philip area. The St Kilda Express service makes travelling to and from the airport even more accessible and cost effective than ever before – especially for the first week when it’s free!”
After the first week, a SkyBus journey from St Kilda to Tullamarine Airport will cost $19 one-way. The service is the most affordable dedicated airport mass transit service in Australasia, when measured by cost/kilometres travelled.
“Our route to the airport is direct and will offer the amenities that our customers have come to expect and appreciate about SkyBus - free Wi-Fi, comfortable and modern vehicles, and a superior service. Visit skybus.com.au/stkilda for the full St Kilda Express timetable,” Mr Sewards said.
The St Kilda Express will pick up passengers from the corner of Barkly Street and Inkerman Street; outside Base Backpackers on Carlisle Street; in Alfred Square near Novotel St Kilda; and outside St Kilda Bowls Club on Fitzroy Street, before travelling directly to Tullamarine Airport.
The new route was officially opened by State Labor Member for Albert Park, Hon Martin Foley, who welcomed the new service and said, “The St Kilda SkyBus will allow more tourists to enjoy the very best of our hotels, cafes, bars and beaches — boosting the precinct’s local economy.”
St Kilda and the Port Phillip area is home to more than 25 hotels that are overwhelmingly in favour of the big red bus in their neighbourhood.
President of St Kilda Tourism & Events, Llewellyn Wyeth, said: “This is a great service for the local residents and visitors to our shores. St Kilda has so many icons that are associated with Melbourne and seeing the red SkyBus shuttling between the area and airport will be another one. Getting to St Kilda from the airport has become much easier and cheaper thanks to SkyBus.”
With the implementation of this new service, SkyBus will also provide hotels with the ability to book airport shuttle services online – an added benefit to both the hotel and their guests.
Adam Begg, Director of SkyBus said, “We at SkyBus are proud of the services we provide to travellers coming in and out of Melbourne and this new service enhances our offerings and travellers’ experiences. As a local resident, I know the importance of improved sustainable transport connections, especially to the Airport. Cosmopolitan St Kilda is also recognised as a key tourist destination within Melbourne, and I’m thrilled that we are making it more accessible than ever.”
Families can take advantage of SkyBus’ discounted fares – as on all SkyBus services, children 16 and under travel free when they are booked with an adult fare. For frequent travellers, tickets can be purchased in advanced in blocks of 20, making single-journey trips only $17 per trip. Tickets can be purchased online, via smartphone or on-board using a card payment.
The free travel offer only extends to the St Kilda Express Service route between Sunday 14 August and Saturday 20 August 2016. Customers don’t need tickets, and can simply turn up and go (visit skybus.com.au/stkilda for the timetable).
