SkyBus Express Service to Avalon Airport Commences

SkyBus is just the ticket as Victoria’s second airport continues to grow.

Melbourne, Australia – SkyBus known for operating the Melbourne express CBD to Tullamarine Airport service, will commence the SkyBus Avalon Express from Wednesday 1 February. The dedicated airport bus service will meet all Jetstar departing and arriving flights at Avalon Airport, transporting passengers to and from Melbourne’s CBD on an express service from tomorrow.

Importantly, residents in Melbourne’s west will be provided with enhanced access to Avalon via a new SkyBus stop at the Werribee RSL, Synnot Street, Werribee.

Departing from the Airport Gateway at Southern Cross Station, the SkyBus Avalon service will allow passengers to use the much-loved SkyBus perks including Free Wi-Fi, easy ticketing options, and most importantly, a regular, reliable service for each and every flight to and from Avalon Airport.

Announcing the new service, SkyBus Director Michael Sewards said: “In line with the recent December announcement by the Minister for Tourism and Major Events, John Eren we are excited to confirm the commencement of our first-class service from Melbourne’s CBD to Avalon Airport.

"Connecting Victoria’s second airport with Melbourne will make domestic travel a lot easier for many Melburnians. We’re looking forward to welcoming our first customers on board tomorrow morning” Mr Sewards said.

Victoria's Minister for Tourism and Major Events, also the Member for Lara, said the new SkyBus service was another example of Avalon Airport’s resurgence.

"When we secured the long-term future of Avalon Airport we knew it would go from strength to strength – and we were right.

"Victorians and our visitors can now fly to and from four Australian cities from Avalon Airport, and that’s great news for the local economy. Avalon is a gateway to some of our most prized tourist destinations, and now more people can see for themselves the best of everything we offer.”

SkyBus' announcement delivers further good news for Avalon Airport following the Victorian Government’s announcement in late 2015 that it had guaranteed the future of Victoria’s second airport by signing an agreement with Jetstar that expands Avalon’s passenger services.[1]

Jetstar customers will also be offered the opportunity to purchase their SkyBus Avalon Express ticket in their Jetstar ticket process.

Commenting on the SkyBus service the CEO of Avalon Airport, Justin Giddings, said: “Avalon Airport has reached agreement with SkyBus to operate services to the Melbourne CBD and the fast growing Wyndham region for the next 10 years. SkyBus are world leaders in their field and we’re delighted to have such a strong brand providing a vital service to our customers. We also appreciate the Victorian Government’s continued support of Avalon Airport and in particular their wonderful assistance of this important transport initiative.”

Adult one-way fares between Avalon Airport and Melbourne’s CBD are $22, with return trips costing $42. Families can take advantage of SkyBus’ discounted fares. As on all SkyBus services, children 16 and under travel free when they are booked with an adult fare.

Tickets can be purchased online, via smartphone or at dedicated e-kiosks at Avalon Airport or Southern Cross Station’s Airport Gateway. As usual, SkyBus will also be offering its free hotel shuttle service from Melbourne’s CBD to all SkyBus Avalon customers.
