New contract with Victorian Government secures greater airport connections
Melbourne, Australia – SkyBus, operator of Australasia's premier airport transfer service, further bolstered its commitment to Victoria by announcing today new services that will directly cater for residents in the western suburbs as well as improvements to its Peninsula Express service.
The SkyBus Western Express will begin operating from 1 July 2018 from Werribee RSL, stopping at Tarneit Railway Station before heading directly to Melbourne Tullamarine Airport. Initially, the SkyBus Western Express will operate on a one-hourly timetable before increasing to a 30-minute frequency in 2019.
In addition, a revamped Peninsula Express servicing the Peninsula all the way to Rosebud is to include stops at Mordialloc and Mentone before heading straight to Melbourne Tullamarine Airport. SkyBus has also simplified fares for the Peninsula Express, where a 'turn up and go' service will be on offer to help make life that little bit easier for families.
The extended and revamped services come after the Victorian Government agreed to a new 10-year contract following SkyBus' excellent record for providing a reliable and affordable service.
SkyBus Co-CEO and Director, Michael Sewards, said that the new SkyBus Western Express and changes to the Peninsula Express services were exciting milestones for the company as it celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
"The Western Express service with a Werribee and Tarneit connection will give local residents a reliable, convenient and affordable ride to and from Melbourne Tullamarine Airport. We have ordered purpose-built, Victorian-made buses to cater for this service, so the residents can rely on SkyBus as a comfortable airport transport service when travelling," said Mr Sewards.
"SkyBus provides Victorians and visitors with a world-class service and is consistently nominated as the highest rated public transport service in Victoria on TripAdvisor."
SkyBus has once again been recognised for its quality service after being awarded the TripAdvisor 2018 Certificate of Excellence. This is the third straight year SkyBus has received the coveted award. The globally recognised award honours hospitality businesses such as SkyBus that deliver consistently superior customer experience
Mr Sewards added: "Our modern Australian-built fleet safely transports over 3.8 million Victorian passengers a year, and grew at 7% last year, with an average wait of no more than six minutes during peak periods."
SkyBus now operates 11 services in four cities across Australia and New Zealand. As part of the new Victorian State Government contract, SkyBus will invest $7.5m in 15 new, locally manufactured buses to increase its fleet, and an additional $2m in customer experience improvements.
With SkyBus, passengers enjoy numerous perks such as free USB chargers, free Wi-Fi, 'kids travel free' policy, ample luggage storage space, online ticket purchasing, EFT payment on-board and a reduced seniors fare.
A two-time RACV Victorian Tourism Awards Gold prize winner, SkyBus has a proven track record as a high-quality mass transit specialist with operations in Melbourne, Geelong, the Gold Coast and Auckland.
