Cheaper than the minimum chips

Melbourne’s iconic SkyBus will commence a new airport transit service with a special introductory offer of $2 Fares for the first month.
The SkyBus “Eastern Express” will commence regular services between Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs and Melbourne Airport on November 3 with fares of just $2 per passenger for month of November, 2019.
SkyBus Co-CEO Michael Sewards said the new service would provide the eastern suburbs with a safe, convenient and reliable option for travelling to and from Melbourne Airport.
“SkyBus has been building passenger numbers across Melbourne by developing new services with a focus on customer experience,” Mr Sewards said.
“Growing up in Donvale, I can relate to how difficult and costly it can be to access transport from the east to the Airport. I know our new service will make life for so many families and frequent travellers so much easier by taking the stress out of airport transport.
All our busses offer free WiFi, luggage compartments, reliable running times, and online, mobile and e-kiosk ticketing options.”
SkyBus is a proudly Victorian company and has become Australasia’s leading airport mass transit operator running twelve services from five airports located across Australia and New Zealand, including Melbourne and Avalon Airports.
“We are proud to say that The Eastern Express is the seventh new airport service delivered to the Victorian public in the last 3 years” said SkyBus Co-CEO Adam Begg.
The SkyBus Eastern Express will commence 3 November providing residents throughout Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs with a direct Melbourne Airport transfer. For the first time, residents in suburbs surrounding Croydon, Ringwood, Box Hill, Doncaster and Watsonia will have access to low cost, reliable, convenient airport express services on the iconic red buses.
The “Eastern Express” will operate from six stops conveniently located near existing transport hubs including Ringwood, Box Hill and Doncaster to create a stress free, easy transfer for people travelling to and from Melbourne Airport.
The Member for Ringwood, Dustin Halse MP, said the announcement was great news for local residents.
“This new service will take the stress out of travelling to and from Melbourne airport and deliver great cost savings for local families, “ Mr Halse said.
“So, together with the Andrews Labor Government’s North-East Link to complete the ring-road, we’ll have traffic light-free transit from the Eastern to the airport, and this is another step to building the transit system we need as our city grows.”
The Member for Box Hill, Paul Hamer, said this is great news for eastern suburbs residents who will now enjoy more regular and reliable services to and from Melbourne Airport.
“Having been a frequent user of the existing SkyBus services, I know this will make an enormous difference to local families”.
The addition of this service complements the arrival of the Peninsula Express Service (Frankston and Peninsula area), St Kilda Express, and Western Express (Werribee) all delivered in the last 2 years by SkyBus offering greater choice, affordability and convenience for the growing demand for connections to and from Melbourne Airport.
Melbourne Airport representative, Lorie Argus, said the new service reflected the increased demand for further mass transit options to support the sustained growth of Melbourne Airport:
“SkyBus is currently transporting 4 million people every year from Melbourne Airport with a wider variety of services reflecting the need for non-city travellers in particular to have more choice and affordable connections to our growing airport.”
Mr Sewards said SkyBus had received excellent initial support from local tourism and government authorities and was keen to develop further service improvements to meet an expected surge in demand.
The development of this service was a result of the acquisition of local PTV licensed operator Airport Bus Eastside in mid 2019. The Eastern Express service will operate under an updated long term PTV license executed with the Department of Transport.
Travellers will be able to easily find their departing Eastern Express bus at the SkyBus Melbourne Airport hubs located at T1 and T4.
Launch special
To celebrate the launch of the Eastern Express service, SkyBus is offering all passengers the ability to purchase $2 One way tickets ($4 Return) for the first month of travel valid up to 30 November 2019. When the $2 offer travel period concludes, tickets starting from $15 one way will be available providing substantial savings on airport transfers.
