Melbourne truly comes alive in winter, both indoors and outdoors. A huge variety of events are on offer so grab your coat and get to the city to experience some of them. Here’s 5 of our weekend favourites this coming month – and stay tuned for a huge July!

1. St Kilda Film Festival

There is still one more week to visit the St Kilda Film Festival before May rolls into June. The Festival focuses on alternative films that may not have been seen by the public otherwise. Films by both emerging artists and accomplished professionals are featured. The Festival specialises in showcasing the Top 100 short film entries received each year.

2. Good Food and Wine Show

Sample your way around the hundreds of local and international stalls at this year’s Good Food and Wine Show. With famous Australian wines available to taste, a cooking masterclass theatre and freebies, it would be wise to catch public transport and skip lunch.

3. Friends of Friends Day/Night Party

Detroit favourite Kyle Hall visits Melbourne for an intimate show featuring local talent including András, Tom Moore (Otologic), Edd Fisher & Simon TK (Wax’o Paradiso), Jesse Young (Cutting Shapes), Kitj and STM. Head down early to avoid the queues and get yourself prepped for some funky beats.

4. Oz Comic-Con

Join in the hilarity of the 2016 Oz Comic-Con and ‘unleash your inner geek’. A convention centred around pop culture, gaming, cartoons and cosplay, this year’s Comic-Con features celebrity guests, a huge showroom of merchandise, a gaming zone and a candy emporium. Dress up as your favourite character and get nerdy for a weekend this June.

5. Melbourne Street Art Tours

Federation Square, Melbourne (meet at the 7-11)

Run by street artists, this tour gives an extensive overview of Melbourne’s underground street art culture. Winding down laneways, under arcades and ending at Blender Studios, you will meet artists and watch them at work. Enjoy a beer with the artists such as HA-HA, DrewFunk, Klara, Heesco, Braddock and Man of Darkness. A fascinating afternoon for anyone wanting to discover a different side of Melbourne.
