Back for a third consecutive year after outgrowing it’s old Federation Square home, Piknic Électronik is the perfect way to spend a summery Sunday afternoon. Not quite your traditional picnic in the park, this Piknic sees the upper section of the Sidney Myer Music Bowl transformed into a mini electronic dance music festival.
Nestled between a grassy hill and an embankment, the stage sees local and international acts spinning tracks from 2pm until twilight at 9pm, with the occasional live act thrown in. With over 24 acts on the bill for the next seven weeks, plus more to be announced, Piknic offers a diverse range of electronic dance music, perfectly suiting the setting of summer’s day outdoors. Headlining February’s parties are Paul Woodford, Deetron hailing from Switzerland, Melbourne favourite Boogs and Tini from Germany. Piknic can also be applauded for their huge number of female DJ’s and artists playing throughout the series.
Piknic Électronik goes the extra mile for quenching thirsts and satisfying hunger. You will not find a premixed can on the premises – only fresh juice, cocktails by Pimms and quality beers by the Colonial Brewing Co. Serviced by a selection of different food trucks each week, there’s something for everyone. There’s even a designated kid zone as Piknic is family friendly and open to all ages.
Located just outside the CBD, getting to Piknic is a cinch. Catch any of the 3, 5, 6, 8, 16, 64, 67 or 72 tram down St Kilda Road or walk from Flinders Street Station. The day’s entertainment ranges from $15 - $35 plus a booking fee.
