SkyBus completes major overhaul of passenger infrastructure at Melbourne Airport
29 July 2019
Today, SkyBus has completed the third and final stage in its $3m major overhaul of the SkyBus ticketing and passenger infrastructure at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport kerbside.
Melbourne, Australia – The completion paves the way for SkyBus to accommodate greater passenger numbers coming through the airport through to 2030 and beyond. With a bus movement at the kerb on average every three minutes, and SkyBus now offering six (6) separate Airport Express services, these facilities are critical to the customer experience as Melbourne Airport continues to grow.
The significant upgrade was undertaken over 12 months with upgrades to ticketing facilities and infrastructure across Melbourne Tullamarine Airport Terminals 1, 3 and 4.
Enhanced ticketing options (including 18 new e-kiosks), more convenient and comfortable waiting areas, and an investment in modern staff facilities were the key objectives of this SkyBus funded project.
The investment also provides growth capacity for SkyBus to provide mass transit services out of these facilities for the next 10 years, and includes capacity for the rapidly growing non city SkyBus services such as Western Express, St Kilda Express, Peninsula Express, Southbank Docklands, and the soon to arrive Eastern Express services.
Proudly commenting on the completion of the 12 month project, Co-CEO and Director Adam Begg said, “the market is dramatically growing at the moment and as a company we had to significantly expand and invest to ensure the customer journey is seamless and future proofed for 2030 and beyond.”
The project led by ontoit consultants saw the three phase redevelopment completed in a total of 4,456 hours delivering three new terminal kerbside customer service ticketing booths with eighteen (18) new NCR e-kiosks providing customers with 24/7 purchasing options.
Passengers can now enjoy the convenience of the kerbside ticketing at all terminals at Melbourne Airport and with additional options in e-kiosks and multiple services available with the convenient kerbside access of all three (3) SkyBus stops.
The arrival of the new SkyBus app (August 2019) will further compliment the passengers ticketing journey and options.
