White Night is a one-night creative festival, bringing Melburnians together in a showcase of the best local, national and international performers, artists and musicians. The concept is simple; bring light to the streets through installations, innovative light shows, performances and exhibitions from dusk till the following dawn.

Built around innovation, accessibility, inclusion and engagement, White Night offers a chance to explore the city streets, parkland and laneways and discover parts of Melbourne usually inaccessible under the cover of darkness. Spread throughout the city streets, Carlton Gardens, Birrarung Marr, Southbank and Alexandra Gardens, you’ll find a range of amazing artistic installations and projects to look at and wander through. Chill out in the Lonsdale Lounge Cinema, see the Shadow Dancers and Life is Sour projection on Flinders Lane, or cross the river to the unbelievable Echidnodermus installation at Southbank. You can also see free special screenings and exhibitions at the Arts Centre and ACMI, and live performances from musicians and artists alike.

One of the most spectacular features of White Night is seeing images, patterns and movies splashed across all the city’s landmark buildings, completely transforming them into a haze of colour and light. The streets are awash with colour; an ever-changing and illuminated landscape completely open and accessible to the masses of people flowing through the streets.

The popularity of this event is not be underestimated; a massive 580,000 people attended last years event at various points during the evening. Public transport will run all night, but be sure to plan ahead. Check out the White Night Melbourne website for all the details.

White Night Melbourne is fast establishing itself as one of the city’s biggest events. Make sure you don’t miss this stunning night out!
