The Royston Hotel

The Royston Hotel

Winter Warmers – Tucked away in a corner of Richmond, almost on the banks of the Yarra River is the Royston Hotel, a cosy and intimate pub quietly going about it’s business.

Melbourne can get a little chilly heading into winter but that's no reason to stay indoors. We thought we'd share some of our favourite Winter Warmers to see you though the colder months.

The best bit about the Royston Hotel is that it’s situated off the main drag of Richmond, whether it be Swan Street, Bridge Road or Victoria Street. It’s one of those pubs that’s filled mainly with locals who live nearby, giving the place charm and a sense of familiarity, even if you aren't a Richmond local yourself.

The space is comfortable and homely, with a dark panelled interior and red lamps hanging off the walls and balancing on tables in the corner. Grab a stool at the beautifully curved bar or one of the high tables, or sprawl on one of the squashy leather couches. There’s also a large dining room with the kitchen looking out on it across the hallway, offering table service and reservations.

The Royston has settled on a simple but sensational menu, with pub classics and contemporary bistro dishes all accounted for. Sharing plates are a good place to start with the salt and pepper calamari, Korean glazed chicken wings and disco potato gems the notable standouts. The main fare is made up of eight mains, two cuts of steaks and four burger offerings with a diverse range of salads and sides bringing up the rear. Vegetarians are catered for with a stuffed portobello mushroom burger, homemade gnocchi and a grilled cauliflower steak. And the sweet-toothes would want to give the sticky toffee pudding a crack, served with a dollop of vanilla ice cream.

Beer is big at the Royston with over 11 craft beers on offer, including Gage Roads Brewing Co., Feral Brewing Company and the delicious Stone & Wood Pacific ale off tap out of Byron Bay. Why not have a few Pacific Ale pints and challenge your mates to a couple of rounds of pool on the billiards table.

The Royston Hotel is comfortable and cosy, perfect for whiling away a winter afternoon with friends. Stop by this weekend for some quality craft beer and classic pub fare.
